Abandonment

Like many others, I no longer see any reason to keep this journal active, and will be closing down shop as soon as I get my entries archived. If you want to keep in contact with me, my AIM name and email are in my profile, and I am also updating at GreatestJournal.com, at this address: my GJ profile. It's been fun, but I don't really care for how things are being handled here.

So long and thanks for all the fish!

Has it seriously been almost a month since I've written in this thing? Wow. Er... happy Independence Day, Americans. Enjoy your barbecues and whatnot.

And honestly... I'm finding it hard to believe so much time has passed. But then again, that's kind of how I feel when I realize that I'll be twenty years old next year. Just... boggledy.

Writer's Block: Words that you love and hate

What are your favourite and least favourite words? Any reasons why?

My answers:

Favourite: Abundance, cadence, sleep, deft, bell, onomatopoeia

Least favourite: Said, the

My reasons:

Abundance: Say it, now. ABUNdance. Lovely rhythm.

Cadence: Because few words make me smile and think fondly of marching band like this one does. I also read a novel by Holly Lisle? that has a female protagonist named Cadence Drake. You have to adore names like that.

Sleep: Because it's 8 AM and I've been up all night.

Deft: Deft is a word that doesn't crop up too often in your average fanfic or novel. It conveys a nice image, but like all of those rare words, it must be used cautiously.

Bell: See Cadence. No, seriously; this is one of my trigger words when used in the right phrase. Give me a good author who knows how to use his or her imagery, and I will fall in love with the words on their pages.

Onomatopoeia: COME ON. Also, I misspelled this word in a spelling bee. It's my bane.

Said: Said is a necessary evil. I hate using it in my writing, but you only get a number of "shouted" and "stated" and "yelled" before your prose falls flat on its over-verbose face.

The: Yet another "ick" word. Just have to be careful your sentences don't turn into repetitions of the cat and the mouse took the time to play on the hardwood floor before the cat dragged the rodent over to the piano, whereupon the feline devoured the helpless vermin. I mean, SNORE. And bore. And... ick.

--

Now, for sleep. The sweetest word of all.

La di da. I've got a cold, but I'm getting over it. =D Plenty of rest and a good healthy dose of time in my pajamas will do that.

Aaanyway, the reason I posted: http://community.livejournal.com/crossover_hp/70267.html It's a Doctor Who/HP crossover. New Who, S3, set after Shakespeare Code, and included for this fantastic line: "I do believe that fifty-seven hundred fangirls just punched the air."

GOOD NIGHT. *falls into bed*

You won't admit you love me, and so...

How am I ever to know?!

Bah, I love Cake. That cover's so ridiculously fun. Anyway, I'm in the mood for fic. Fic that I can print off and take outside with me and read it while I bask, gloriously, in the sunshine and work on <strike>tanning</strike> freckling. <strike>Tanning bed tans look ugly.</strike>

The only problem is... I am having issues finding good quality Harry Potter genfic. Is the fandom simply too large? Am I looking for loff in all the wrong places? Or am I just retarded?

Either way, it's SO HARD WAH. Apparently I am a very picky reader; I was f'listing yesterday and caught photosinensis's post about the same topic, and while I'm not as experienced as he is in fandom, I agree. I mean, is the fandom just too large to have a lot of lengthy, good quality fics in the same place any more? Have all the kerfluffles made the fen too split, too many factions to ever band together and say "HEY! GOOD FIC GOES HERE!"

I don't know. I'm lazy, tired, and bored of crawling through the internet in search of what I need.

In other news, my mother is working midnights now. This means that she and Bob share roughly the same work schedule: both are out of the house by 10.30, and both don't return home until roughly 9 AM the next day.

I am, needless to say, terrified. Last night I slept with a Winchester right by my bed, and every little time one of the dogs barked, I was up and awake with the rifle in my hand. I'm sure it'll be better, but ack. Nervous. It's different than when they go out at night - I know they'll be home sometime during the early hours. But at night... I know they won't be back for nearly eleven hours, which is incredibly worrisome.

I don't know. I'm paranoid.

Oh Noes!

So I've gotten this new crazy idea in my head, and I figured I should confer with the peanut gallery on what to do.

I've decided to get a new computer, specifically for gaming. But I'm a little curious as to how to go about it. I started looking at what I would need to get to build this thing, and while I love the idea and accomplishment of doing it myself, I realize that I am not, perhaps, well-suited to this task. There's a big difference between repairing your mom's woolly mammoth of a Hewlett-Packard, and actually building something with your own two hands.

Let me clarify; I know a little about computers, but as it stands, if you gave me everything I'd need to build this thing right now, I'd probably look at you really funny. But I'm willing to learn! That should count for something!

Does it?

View Poll: What should I do?

Work, work, work...

So I got a job. Yay job!
I work as a telemarketer.

Less yay. :P Good days tend not to happen when you call people 8 hours straight. Still, it's a good job, because as someone put it: "It's perfect for you. You love to talk and make people try to like you." A little harsh, but apt.

I feel awful about neglecting this again. I've had a lot going on these past few months... and I meant to update! I meant to do more than I did, but that's how it always goes.

Anyway, my To Do List:

- find an apartment.

- be a CHEERFUL telemarketer.

- stop sucking as a person.

- find an effective way to stop sucking as a person instead of driving to Baltimore and hoping that my problems just kind of fix themselves.

- really, really, really find an apartment. If I live with my mother this summer, I will shoot myself.

- look into getting another job. I have 3 days off a week, that should be enough to get in some part-time hours.

- MOVE THE FUCK OUT OF MY MOM'S HOUSE. *flail*

- Maybe apply at Wal-Mart?
Well...

Christmas and New Year's has come and gone.

I've stopped drinking. Day at a time, yeah? It's difficult (especially on campus - all anyone ever seems to talk about is the Greek parties), but life goes on.

I finally found someone for me <strike>and it was about damn time</strike>. He'll be here in March. I can't wait.

I haven't updated this because I am still an awful lazy sod. But I'm working on that too. (I cleaned my room yesterday. Partially. Under the bed and out of mind!)

Ob la dee, ob la da... la la la la life goes on.

Drabble Meme, from nwcmwfan15

Every person on your f-list gets to request a drabble (no more than 500 words) from you. In return, they have to post this in their journal and write a drabble for you. Post all fandoms you're willing to write for.Your friends can pick a relationship, a story arc, a missing scene, commentary! Or pretty much anything they want, unless the author haspreviously mentioned that they will not write it. They comment with what they want, and you write drabbles and post it in your LiveJournal as a reply to their comment.

My fandoms: House, Harry Potter, Doctor Who, Torchwood, and Death Note (please nothing with Mello or Near.)

And no more than five requests per person, please! :D

Write a journal entry for this meme with six random facts about yourself. Then pick six of your friends list and tag them - no tagbacks. These rules should be included in your entry.

1. I watch a LOT of cartoons.
2. On the Bisexual Terror Alert List (highest color, purple), I've downgraded myself to bicurious (pink).
3.
Torchwood

well, first off, SQUEE SQUEE MCSQUEEPANTS.

Nice, solid episode in my opinion. Perfect for that Halloween fright-fest! Just from a first watching, Owen seems to be more and more developed. Toshiko Sato? Not so much. She's their man in the van, but I'm sure she'll have more of a role as time goes by.

That scene with the gun? Far, far hotter than it was ever meant to be. I am really jealous of Gwen, for some odd reason. She has Mr Sex at home in the form of Rhys, and then she goes to work and her senses are assaulted by Mr Big God Damn Sex And Don't Forget it for a Second.

Um. I'm a little incoherent now, so sorry for this not having anything to do with the episode. Oh, here's my one quibble:

PLEASE BE MORE ORIGINAL WITH THE SPLITTING OF THE RHYS/GWEN RELATIONSHIP, THX.

Also: I start running tomorrow at 8 AM. Oh God.

In the land of the killers, the sinner's mind is a sanctum.

Omg. First off: Thank you so much, everyone who replied to my last post and who wished me a happy birthday -- it really means a lot. My day, cut because so much has happened and I just need to get it off my chest.

I wanted to go to my World Civ II class, but like an idiot, I forgot to set my alarm. I rolled over this morning and the clock read 10:45. My class starts at 10.

"Well, fuck it," I said, and checked my messages. One New Voicemail. Oh, cool! It's from my mom.

"Happy birthday, Ashton. Blah blah blah cakes I love you, blah blah blah you're eighteen, call me when you get this."

I don't have time to call her back before my phone rings again, a 591 number. It's Regina, one of my mom's friends.

"Baby (the horse) is cut up badly. The vet is just wrapping up. I'll let you talk to her when he leaves."

She'd been trying to get out, and in doing so, had cut every one of her legs up. She was already going into shock when they found her; it was all that the combined force of Regina, the vet, and my mom could do to get her to the barn for treatment. He was there for two hours, and the horse kicked him. ("If I don't get kicked at least once, it's a bad week," he said.)

My mom was crying; the vet bill had been $300, and this means we were fucking broke. No birthday presents, no dinner at Jimanetti's, no gas money for me to come home. I assured her it was okay, that it was just a day, and that what mattered most was that the horse was all right. Then I hung up the phone and started crying.

I walked into the food court, and Jayson sat me down and talked to me and wished me a happy birthday, along with a couple of other people, and I felt better. After helping him with his Spanish homework, I decided that really, class wasn't all that important, and I wanted to be with my mother even if it meant walking back.

Nothing much happened on the ride there, except I decided to take a back road for some reason and found a trailer full of free pumpkins. Needless to say, seven of them are now mine, and a few of them still need carved.

Fast forward through all the embarrassing Mom-time: "yay yay you're eighteen your dad would be so proud of you yay you're such an adult DON'T CUT YOURSELF WITH THAT KNIFE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!" no. seriously. that whole spiel was a direct quote.

I went back to Rio, basking in parental love and affection, and talked to some friends for a few minutes before toddling off to shower. When I get back, I keep talking to Jayson on AIM. The gist is "Hey, what's up?" "Nothing, getting ready to take a shower." "Mmn, cool. See you later." *pause* "Hey, come over." "Mmkay. But my hair's wet, you'll have to deal with it." "Don't care."

What is going on? By this point, I had completely forgotten about it being my birthday. Yeah. You see where this is goin'. Good for you, cause I didn't even see it until they shouted "Happy Birthday!" at me.

It was the first birthday party that anyone aside from my mom has ever thrown for me. This being the case, it was also the first surprise party -- they weren't even planning it until they realized what an awful day I was having. Then it was "Cheer Ashton up!" day, and that made me feel all special.

Yay birthdays. Yay you guys. Yay papers to write.

Okay, thanks for listening. :D

It rocked so hard.
